With growing frequency, I hear myself saying, “I can’t imagine. . . ” Sometimes it is the shock of unimaginable evil as we live in this fallen world. At other times, it is the surprise of unimaginable delight when something good comes into my life. But most often, it is the recognition of the unimaginable work of God in either my life or in the world. God’s actions are beyond even my most vivid imagination and I find myself simply being amazed.
In the past few weeks, the world has been shocked by the unimaginable cruelty and evil as perpetrated by Islamic extremist organization known as ISIS. Especially shocking was the ritualistic beheading of twenty Coptic Christian men and one Christian man from Ghana on the beaches of Libya.

The response of the families of these men killed only because of the name of Jesus Christ? Forgiveness. One report: The Coptic Christian was asked what he would do if he saw an ISIS militant, and he recalled his mother’s response.”My mother, an uneducated woman in her sixties, said she would ask [him] to enter her house and ask God to open his eyes because he was the reason her son entered the kingdom of heaven,”.

The leader of the Coptic church in Great Britain declared, “We don’t forgive the act because the act is heinous. But we do forgive the killers from the depths of our hearts”.

And now, God has done the unimaginable in my journey. The publisher of the soon-to-be released Arabic translation of my book, “I Choose to Forgive” has asked my permission to personally give a copy of my book to EVERY family of these martyred men. My journey intersects with a story of world-wide proportions.
